With all the buzz surrounding the new Wicked movie, we were thrilled at the opportunity to transform 4105 into the magical land of Oz for the Master Builders Association’s Installation of Officers & Awards Gala! To honor the Board President’s roots, we took the blank canvas of 4105 and transformed it into an immersive journey from Kansas to Oz.

We’re Not in Kansas Anymore!
The journey to Oz began in Kansas (our Gallery), where guests enjoyed a cocktail hour with Kansas-inspired cocktails and passed bites. Then, as the Great Room doors swung open, 4105’s 120-foot walls revealed a breathtaking Kansas landscape, complete with spinning windmills behind vast cornfields and stunning plains. As guests settled in their seats, they were immersed in the magic of a tornado sweeping through the scenery, with wind howling through the room and smoke filling up the space, transforming 4105 into the enchanting land of Oz.

We have to give a major shout out to Live Oak AV for their incredible work on this gala. Adam Purkey, our Business Development and Events Manager, shared, “When Soph ran the transition from Kansas to the Emerald City, they literally got a round of applause from the guests!” We couldn’t be more grateful to work with such incredible people and vendors to help bring events like this one to life.

Entering the Land of Oz
For our culinary team, tying the essence of Oz into the menu was essential. They shared, “We aimed for subtlety in our dishes, allowing each element to tell a part of the story. The Radicchio-Arugala Salad, for example, with its bitter, spicy greens, paid homage to the complexity of Elphaba. Meanwhile, the radicchio with its pink, spicy notes paired with the sweetness of the apricots gave a nod to Glinda’s character.”

Personally, I loved the Salmon with Miso Butter and Cucumber Radish Salad! The miso perfectly complemented the rich, tender salmon, adding a deep umami flavor. The Cucumber Radish Salad brought out a refreshing acidity and crunch to the dish, while the romanesco brought a unique texture that represented the intricate architecture of the Emerald City.

Our pastry team focused on incorporating iconic moments from the Wizard of Oz into the dessert menu Brideen Baker, our Executive Pastry Chef, revealed, “The Banana Chai Whoopie Pies were garnished with a swirl of frosting to represent the tornado that transports Dorothy to Oz. Our Key Lime Tarts paid homage to the wizard and Emerald City, while the Dark Chocolate Brownies with Peppermint Ganache represented the dark side of Oz.”
We were thrilled to hear that Katrina Peterson, Events Manager at the Master Builders Association, received positive feedback from the guests. She mentioned, “I heard rave reviews on the food and look forward to working together again in the future.”
